Having purchased an automobile out of state in Ohio, in seeking to have the car transported to Georgia, our company came to engage AmeriFreight as our transport booking agent to solicit a transport company to handle our needs and requiremnts. We had gotten online quotes from other numerous transport booking agents, but we found that AmeriFreight came in with the lowest quote. In many cases other agencies quoted up to $400 more than the AmeriFreight quote. Some of the others even advertised a sliding scale whereby the price could 'change with the wind' along with other added deceptions thrown into the mix. Once the transport company was found, AmeriFreight provided round the clock text, emails and phone call assistance concerning the dispatch. The transport service company found was equally helpful and also provided phone calls, text and emails in a professional manner, all resulting in a seamless safe delivery the vehicle we had purchased out of state. Dealing with AmeriFreight in support of our transportation needs was a pleasure: their professional mannerisms and concerns were by far very reassuring, with no holds barred! AmeriFreight is strongly recommended for anyone needing safe and sound attention to the delivery of automobiles across the United States from one point to an other. Show more

The... The service was great! They made sure to reach out regarding the offer made by the carrier within the week of delivery (which is what they promised), and the pick-up and delivery date was correct. The driver initially said 1:30/2 PM (Pick up in the state of Georgia), and was able to come by 2:45 PM for pick-up. For delivery date (to the city of Boston), the driver estimated the next day, at around 4 pm, and the driver was able to reach the destination by 6:10 PM. Each time, the driver was able to notify me updates of the ETA, which was very, very useful (this is on the driver, though, and not on AmeriFreight). The day before the pick-up date of the car, I had called the customer care team at AmeriFreight, worried, since I hadn't gotten a call from the carrier, and they were able to sort everything out for me promptly. The carrier reached out soon after I had called the care team, and I was able to coordinate everything with the driver then. The pick-up was smooth; I took pictures, and the driver also took pictures. The driver was very professional, and I was grateful that AmeriFreight chose such a professional carrier to work with. The estimated quote was around $790, and the final price that was asked was $953. There was no other offer that came in besides that one, so I didn't have any other option, but this was a good deal for me, especially after the fact, with a very smooth delivery and no hick-ups along the way. How It Works

What to Know About Shipping a Car in Georgia

AmeriFreight Auto Transport is headquartered right here in Georgia, in Tyrone, just south of Atlanta. Unlike out-of-state brokers, we coordinate Georgia shipments from inside the market we know best. Here is what that local knowledge means for your shipment.

Atlanta metro access. Metro Atlanta is one of the densest shipping markets in the Southeast, and the I-285 perimeter, I-75, I-85, and the downtown Connector give carriers strong availability in and out of the region. Access varies by neighborhood, though. Buckhead and Midtown high-rises, along with gated communities in Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, and the northern suburbs, often cannot accommodate a full-size transport truck, so your agent will arrange a nearby accessible meeting point. Suburban and residential pickups across the metro are generally straightforward with Door-to-Door Service (Location Permitting).

The Georgia ports. Georgia is a major vehicle gateway. The Port of Brunswick is the busiest auto port in the country, handling 779,000 vehicles in 2025, and the Port of Savannah is one of the busiest container ports in the US. If you are buying a vehicle arriving through a Georgia port, your agent can coordinate pickup near the port and delivery to your door anywhere in the contiguous US.

Savannah and the historic district. Savannah is an active shipping market, but its historic district, with narrow one-way streets, low tree canopy, and tight squares, is difficult for large carriers. Pickups and deliveries there are typically arranged at a nearby accessible location rather than directly on a historic-district street.

Military relocations. Georgia has a heavy military presence, and AmeriFreight Auto Transport regularly coordinates PCS vehicle shipments for service members at Fort Moore (Columbus), Fort Stewart (near Savannah), Fort Eisenhower (Augusta), and Robins Air Force Base (Warner Robins). A $35 military discount is available, just inform your agent at the time of your estimate.

Registration for new residents. If you are moving to Georgia, new residents are generally required to register their vehicle and obtain a Georgia license within a set period after establishing residency, handled through the Department of Revenue and the Department of Driver Services. Shipping your vehicle so it arrives with time to spare before that window closes makes the transition smoother.

How to Choose the Right Car Shipping Company in Georgia

When choosing the right car shipping company in Georgia, it’s important to work with a team that understands the state’s routes, cities, and timing. Whether you’re shipping a car from Atlanta’s busy metro area, along the coast near Savannah, or between cities like Augusta, Macon, or Columbus, experience matters.

A reliable Georgia car shipping company should communicate clearly, coordinate with licensed carriers, and help you understand what to expect before, during, and after transport. At AmeriFreight Auto Transport, we focus on making car shipping across Georgia straightforward and dependable, so you can move forward knowing your vehicle is in capable hands.

Common Georgia Car Shipping Mistakes — and How to Avoid Them

  • Waiting too long to book – Last-minute requests around busy areas like Atlanta or Savannah can limit options. Planning ahead gives you more flexibility.

  • Choosing based on price alone – The lowest quote doesn’t always reflect the full picture. Clear communication and realistic expectations matter more.

  • Not understanding pickup access – Tight neighborhoods, downtown areas, or gated communities in Georgia cities may require nearby meeting points.

  • Skipping questions upfront – Asking how the process works before booking helps avoid confusion during pickup or delivery.

How to Prepare Your Vehicle for a Smooth Georgia Car Shipping Experience

  • Clean your vehicle before pickup so its condition can be clearly documented.

  • Remove personal items to prevent delays and keep the process moving smoothly.

  • Leave about a quarter tank of fuel to allow safe loading and unloading.

  • Disable alarms and remove toll devices, especially for vehicles moving through metro Georgia routes.

  • Be available at pickup and delivery, whether you’re in Atlanta, Macon, Augusta, or beyond.

  • Is Enclosed Auto Transport the Right Choice for Shipping a Car in Georgia?

Yes — but only in certain situations. Enclosed auto transport can be the right choice for shipping a car in Georgia if you’re transporting a luxury, classic, or high-value vehicle and want added protection during transit. For most standard vehicles, open transport works well across Georgia and is the more commonly used option. Enclosed shipping is best when extra peace of mind matters more than keeping costs lower, especially for vehicles where condition and care are a top priority.

Thinking About Moving To or From Georgia?

Georgia continues to attract new residents thanks to its strong job market, diverse cities, and high quality of life. From the fast-paced energy of Atlanta to the historic charm of Savannah and the growing communities in cities like Augusta, Macon, and Columbus, Georgia offers something for just about everyone. Whether you’re moving to Georgia for work, school, military relocation, or a fresh start—or heading out of state for your next chapter—planning your vehicle transport ahead of time can make the transition far less stressful.

If you’re moving to Georgia, new residents are generally required to obtain a Georgia driver’s license and register their vehicle within a set period after establishing residency. This typically involves visiting the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) for licensing and the Georgia Department of Revenue for vehicle registration. If you’re moving from Georgia, shipping your car ahead of time can help you settle into your new location faster without putting extra miles or wear on your vehicle.

With major interstates like I-75, I-85, I-20, I-16, and I-95, plus access to key ports and regional hubs, Georgia is well connected to the rest of the country—making car shipping a practical option for both inbound and outbound moves. Coordinating your Georgia car shipping early allows you to focus on housing, work, and family logistics while your vehicle is handled separately and efficiently.

Frequently Asked Questions About Georgia Car Shipping

How much does it cost to ship a car to or from Georgia?

Georgia car shipping costs depend on factors such as distance, vehicle type, pickup and delivery locations, time of year, and current route demand. Using a car shipping calculator or speaking with an agent is the best way to get an accurate estimate.

How long does car shipping to or from Georgia take?

Transit times vary based on distance and route. Shorter regional shipments may take 1–3 days, while long-distance shipments can take several days. All delivery timeframes are estimates and depend on real-world conditions.

How is my vehicle protected during transport?

Every carrier we match you with holds active FMCSA operating authority and carries federally required cargo coverage. For added peace of mind, the optional AFTA Plan provides gap protection for certain damage scenarios that may fall outside standard carrier coverage. The AFTA Plan is not insurance, it is an optional gap protection product. Your agent can explain the details before your shipment.

Can I ship a car to or from Georgia if I’m not present?

Yes. A designated representative can be present for pickup or delivery as long as they can release or receive the vehicle and sign the necessary paperwork.

Can I put personal items in my car during shipping?

Vehicles should be free of personal items before transport to help ensure a smooth shipping process and avoid delays.

What’s the difference between open and enclosed car shipping in Georgia?

Open transport is the most common option and works well for most vehicles. Enclosed transport provides added protection and is often chosen for luxury, classic, or high-value cars.

How far in advance should I schedule Georgia car shipping?

Booking one to two weeks in advance is recommended when possible, especially during busy seasons or when shipping from high-demand areas like metro Atlanta.

Where will my car be picked up and delivered?

Most shipments are arranged door-to-door, meaning pickup and delivery occur as close to your locations as access and safety allow.

How do I get a quote for Georgia car shipping?

You can get a quote by using the online car shipping calculator or by calling an AmeriFreight auto transport agent to discuss your specific needs.

AmeriFreight Auto Transport State Market Insight

Why Georgia Is a Consistent and Well-Connected Car Shipping Market

What This Means for Your Car Shipment

Georgia’s population of more than 10.7 million residents and over 4.2 million households creates strong and consistent demand for vehicle transport. Much of this activity is concentrated in the Atlanta metropolitan area, along with major regional centers like Savannah and Augusta. Growth in logistics, film production, healthcare, and technology continues to drive workforce relocation and business-related vehicle movement. As a result, Georgia car shipping demand remains steady for both residential moves and commercial transport.

Several major interstate corridors make Georgia a central transportation hub in the Southeast. I-75 and I-85 converge in Atlanta, connecting the state with Florida, Tennessee, and the Midwest freight network. I-20 runs east to west linking Atlanta with Birmingham and Columbia, while I-95 supports coastal transport along the Atlantic corridor. A common shipment route moves vehicles between Atlanta and Jacksonville along the I-75 corridor.

Port activity in Savannah, one of the busiest container ports in the United States, plays a major role in regional logistics. Military relocations from Fort Moore, Fort Stewart, and Robins Air Force Base also contribute to ongoing vehicle transport demand. Carriers frequently coordinate pickups across rural parts of the state through nearby interstate corridors or metro areas. AmeriFreight Auto Transport works with vetted, fully insured, and FMCSA-registered carriers who regularly service Georgia routes year-round, helping provide dependable scheduling. Demand typically increases during peak summer relocation season and year-end moves, which can influence timing and pricing.

If you are planning Georgia car shipping, understanding these major transport corridors helps set realistic expectations.
