The State of Indiana

Indiana, presumably named because the land lying along the Ohio River was purchased by the Native Americans, borders the state of Illinois and was admitted as the 19th state in the U.S. in 1816. Home to the capital city of Indianapolis, Indiana is well known for its love for basketball and for producing iconic stars such as Louie Dampier and Larry Bird.

The Hoosier State, as it's commonly nicknamed, has generated the fifth-highest number of professional basketball players per capita of any state and also has the nation's second-largest automotive industry in the country. Indiana has so much to offer!

Culture and Art

The city of Indianapolis has a wide range of historical attractions that are known for their cultural and architectural representations. From museums to universities, the state offers amazing pieces that will take you back in history.

Stroll through the gardens, sit by the fountains, and appreciate the nature and variety of art pieces the museum has to offer.

  • University of Notre Dame

Discover ancient statues, small intimate gardens, fountains, religious attractions such as the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, and breathtaking architecture.

Old buildings, trees, and flowers blooming is a special part of the experience when visiting the well-known university.

Indianapolis should be on your list of ideal vacations for a variety of reasons, including high-speed, history, and plain old Hoosier friendliness.

  • Fort Wayne

If you are looking for the best of both worlds: urban convenience and natural beauty, Fort Wayne is the place for you. At open-air Jefferson Pointe, shopaholics may find the newest styles, and the Rivergreenway, which connects the city's parks and includes Johnny Appleseed's Grave, is a great place for joggers, walkers, and bikers.

  • South Bend

A visit to the University of Notre Dame, South Bend's most famous landmark, is a worthwhile investment of time and money. Though it's difficult to get tickets to a "Fighting Irish" football game at the 80,000-plus-seat Notre Dame Stadium, there are lots of other things to do on the campus. Numerous works of art, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, and the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, a copy of the famed shrine, are among the highlights.

  • Lafayette

Lafayette contains a college town at its heart with natural scenery surrounded by a bustling metropolitan hub. Purdue University, located across the Wabash River in West Lafayette, attracts thousands of young students each year. We shipped a car from Indiana to Texas. We wanted it shipped and delivered before Christmas. That did not happen. We ended up shipping before Christmas and took delivery after Christmas but a day before we agreed - the trucker was early but we arrived in time to take delivery. We did end up paying more than we wanted also but Jorge did get the job done. We were not charged until we agreed on the Carrier as promised. Some other shippers take a deposit up front that you do not get back even if they do not help you. Amerifreight was honest, knowledgeable, helpful and accessible. Thank you for your help and professionalism. I did not imagine the experience being what it was but I am glad we had Jorge to navigate the process. Show more

Crystal, our coordinator, did a great job communicating and it was a seamless experience. Our final cost to transport was about 60% higher than the initial bid we put out there, but we did take the first offer and I'm not sure if it could have been lower had not been under a time pressure. Either way, working with AmeriFreight was incredibly easy and I would highly recommend. Show more

AmeriFreight Auto Transport State Market Insight

Why Indiana Is a Consistent and Well-Connected Car Shipping Market

What This Means for Your Car Shipment

Indiana’s population of more than 6.7 million residents and nearly 2.8 million households supports steady vehicle relocation demand across the Midwest. Much of this activity centers around Indianapolis, the state’s largest metro area and a major logistics hub, while cities such as Fort Wayne, Evansville, and South Bend contribute additional movement tied to manufacturing, healthcare, and university communities. This regional distribution helps maintain consistent demand for Indiana car shipping.

Several interstate highways make Indiana an important crossroads for vehicle transport routes. Interstate 65 runs north to south through Indianapolis and connects the state with Chicago and Louisville. Interstate 70 crosses Indiana east to west and links Indianapolis with Ohio and Missouri, forming a major cross-country shipping corridor. Interstate 69 connects Indianapolis with Fort Wayne and continues toward Michigan and the Canadian border. A common shipment route moves vehicles between Indianapolis and Chicago along the I-65 corridor, one of the most frequently used transport routes in the Midwest.

Manufacturing activity and logistics distribution centers create ongoing relocation demand, while university moves connected to Purdue University, Indiana University, and the University of Notre Dame contribute seasonal vehicle transport activity. In smaller towns and rural areas across the state, carriers may coordinate pickup locations near interstate corridors or nearby cities to maintain efficient routing.

Winter snow and seasonal Midwest weather can occasionally influence transport scheduling.

AmeriFreight Auto Transport works with vetted, fully insured, and FMCSA-registered carriers who regularly service Indiana routes year-round, helping provide dependable scheduling.

Demand typically increases during peak summer relocation season and year-end moves, which can influence timing and pricing.

If you are planning Indiana car shipping, understanding these major transport corridors helps set realistic expectations.
