The State of Iowa

Iowa is a wonderful state placed between rivers. Better known for its landscape of cornfields and rolling plains, Iowa sits between the iconic Missouri and Mississippi rivers. Its capital, Des Moines, includes incredible landmarks such as the gold-domed 19th-century State Capitol Building or the Pappajohn Sculpture Park.

History

Louis Jolliet and Jacques Marquette were the first European explorers to visit Iowa, arriving on the Mississippi River in 1673 and discovering several Native American towns. Until 1763, when the French were defeated in the Indian and French War, the region was claimed by the French and consequently formed part of their empire.

The region was given to Spain by the French, who offered commercial privileges to both British and French businessmen. The state later formed part of Spanish Louisiana until the U.S bought the state of Louisiana, and locals started an agricultural economy based in what is now known as the Corn Belt.

Do you know who invented sliced bread? Iowan Otto Rohwedder designed a device that would slice and wrap bread back in 1927. Amerifreight is in the top 3 of auto haulers according to Google. I worked with Erica, and she was absolutely FANTASTIC! She got me a truck driver the same day I called, she set up a great price quote and she stayed in touch with me every step of the way. I hope her bosses give her a raise because she did an amazing job for us. Thank you Erica!! We had zero issues with the company, they told us exactly how much it was going to be and how long it would take to get our new vehicle home, and they were spot on! Our truck driver was Tim Newham from Newham Trucking LLC. Tim was very down to earth, no games, excellent driver. Tim kept in contact with us the whole way, and is very careful with the vehicles on the trailer. He obeyed all the laws and still got our vehicle from Ohio to Iowa in 48 hours. He called us when he picked it up and when he was about 30 minutes from drop off. Tim Newham and his guys are awesome drivers that will get the job done efficiently and effectively. Thank you Tim! Thank you to everyone involved for making our auto transport needs so easy. We definitely recommend others to use Amerifreight and Tim Newham for your transport needs, we are definitely using them again very soon!!! Show more

Harry Davis at AmeriFreight was the agent I dealt with, and he was honest and open throughout the process. I was having a car picked up from one out-of-the-way address in Iowa and delivered to another remote address in northern-most NY state, so it took quite a while to find a carrier to take the car, but that was eventually done. Because it was taking so long, he even offered me to try to list it with other companies, but I realized that it would be the same situation everywhere. The final cost was +50% more than originally quoted, but still the same or lower than the quotes I had gotten from other companies. The final transport arrangements with the carrier were made very last minute, but it all worked out. It was picked up and delivered when I was told that it would be. Overall, should I ever need another car transported, I would definitely consider the same company again. Show more

I thought it was going to be crazy expensive, so I did some research. I found AmeriFreight through a magazine article talking about the best shipping companies in the US. The article was right! Once I got the quote I was assigned a rep named Liz. I was surprised at how inexpensive it is to ship a car across the country. Liz was wonderful! The whole experience was organized and she was so fast to communicate with me every step of the way. She really put my mind at ease when I had a million questions. The car was picked up with no issues in Iowa and arrived in VA perfectly. We were even able to pack up to 100 lbs in the car! The gentleman that delivered the vehicle was easy to communicate with via text, while he was en route. I would 100% recommend AmeriFreight and I would without a doubt use them again. AmeriFreight Auto Transport State Market Insight

Why Iowa Is a Strategically Located Regional Car Shipping Market

What This Means for Your Car Shipment

Iowa’s population of more than 3.19 million residents and over 1.34 million households creates steady regional demand for vehicle transport. Activity is concentrated around Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and the Quad Cities region near Davenport, where finance, manufacturing, and healthcare employment drive relocation. Agricultural and food processing industries also contribute to workforce movement across the state. As a result, Iowa car shipping demand remains consistent for both personal moves and commercial vehicle transport.

Several major interstate highways connect Iowa with key Midwest shipping routes. I-80 runs across the center of the state and serves as one of the most important transcontinental freight corridors in the country. I-35 links Des Moines with Minneapolis and Kansas City, while I-29 connects western Iowa to South Dakota and Missouri. A common shipment route moves vehicles between Des Moines and Omaha along the I-80 corridor.

University relocations and regional business activity contribute to ongoing vehicle shipping demand throughout the year. Carriers often coordinate pickups across rural areas by meeting customers near interstate corridors or nearby cities such as Cedar Rapids or Davenport. Winter snow and seasonal storms can occasionally influence logistics planning in the Midwest. AmeriFreight Auto Transport works with vetted, fully insured, and FMCSA-registered carriers who regularly service Iowa routes year-round, helping provide dependable scheduling. Demand typically increases during peak summer relocation season and year-end moves, which can influence timing and pricing.

If you are planning Iowa car shipping, understanding these major transport corridors helps set realistic expectations.
